Finance & Operations Manager

Upshot is looking for a manager to assist with the weekly and monthly financial and operational needs necessary for running a modern advertising agency. We are looking for a true hybrid—a detail-oriented organizer, creative problem solver and someone who prides themselves on partner and stakeholder satisfaction. This position reports to the Director of Finance & Operations.   • 5-7 years in Finance/Financial Operations role(s)
  • Sound sense of logistics and operations, balanced with flexibility
  • Strong understanding of basic financial concepts (e.g., revenue, fee, expense, margin, contribution margin, unidentified revenue)
  • Basic understanding of GAAP accounting principles
  • Solid communication skills—written and verbal—including effective presentation skills
  • Expert Excel skills, inclusive of ability to create and understand Pivot Table data
  • Able to create and communicate effective financial reporting
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable in fast-paced environment and can consistently produce results while meeting deadlines and juggling multiple projects both as an individual contributor, as well as an individual in a team environment
  • Strategic and forward thinker, capable of identifying and solving operational issues


This is a multi-faceted role and responsibilities will evolve over time with company needs and career growth.

  • Own and prepare of annual budget and monthly P&L forecast
  • Own and prepare of all ad hoc operational reporting for business unit, including but not limited to metric reporting, KPI analysis, etc. with goal to find streamline and cost efficiencies where possible
  • Build and implement new operational process where applicable
  • Act as strategic operational partner to Upshot General Manager to advise on all Upshot financial aspects
  • Communicate Upshot financial position to senior leadership
  • Provide financial management to all departments, including annual budgeting, reforecast processes, long range planning and actuals reporting
  • Oversee financial planning for corporate items, including month-end close
  • Develop management reporting to enable real-time information flow to budget stakeholders
  • Partner with the accounting team to support monthly & quarterly close processes
  • Create month end reporting package for Upshot leadership, including but not limited to articulation of the material variances and drivers vs forecast, vs budget, vs prior year
  • Provide monthly variance analyses and executive summaries to budget stakeholders along with recommendations for any corrective actions needed
  • Responsible for profitability analysis (rate card) and analysis of labor cost/ratios
  • Own and manage Upshot’s process/policy management and documentation as required
  • Owner and manage Upshot’s invoice approvals as required
  • Schedule and coordinate weekly and ad hoc meetings as needed
  • Field routine finance and operations questions from agency staff
